Sequence of Courses

The Ethnic Studies MA program is designed as a two-year program during which students must complete a minimum of 30 units. This includes a culminating experience that takes the form of either writing a thesis or engaging in an applied research project and writing a field study.

Students are expected to take three core classes their first semester and three core classes their second semester.

During the third semester students are expected to enroll in three classes but there is some flexibility regarding which classes you choose. The elective may be chosen from any College of Ethnic Studies graduate-level course relevant to the student’s research topic or an upper-division College of Ethnic Studies undergraduate course relevant to the student’s research topic. Upper-division courses are those numbered 300 and above.
