Welcome to the SF State Ethnic Studies M.A. program.
The College of Ethnic Studies was established in Fall 1969 as the School of Ethnic Studies. It was renamed a college in the Spring semester of 1994. It is the only autonomous Ethnic Studies college in the nation. In 1988 the College initiated the nation’s first Master of Arts degree-granting program in Ethnic Studies. Within the college are the departments of Africana Studies, American Indian Studies, Asian American Studies, Latina/Latino Studies and Race and Resistance Studies. Africana, American Indian, Asian American and Latina/Latino Studies departments have both undergraduate majors and minors. Race and Resistance Studies offers two undergraduate minors; the comparative Race and Resistance Studies minor and Arab and Muslim Ethnicities and Diasporas Studies (AMED) minor.
